Learning to cook again

I am not used to cooking. My ex did almost all the cooking for the last 10 years. I would cook grilled sandwiches and such but nothing of any substance.  Tonight I decided I would try to improvise a dish from stuff I had laying around at home.

When I was at Meijer last week I saw hamburger helper and I looked at some of the stuff that they offered, and then I looked at the ingredients and thought why would I want to feed my kids the crap that is in these?  SO tonight I decided to make my own version of hamburger helper.

  • 1lb of Hamburger
  • 8 ounces of shredded Colby Jack cheese
  • half a stick of butter
  • Mini-Shell noodles
  • A tiny bit of steak seasoning.

When I cooked the hamburger I decided I would put in a cup of water to help separate the grease. It worked out really well. The hamburger was delicious, but not greasy at all.  I made Chloe a bowl without any hamburger in it, she is very picky, and then mixed in about 8 ounces of cooked hamburger, added some extra cheese and viola!

It went over well, Kenny came back for seconds and Chloe had a bowl of the stuff with the hamburger in it too. I was so happy. I was full after one bowl myself though.

That makes me a happy camper! Kids telling me my cooking is good made my night.

Have a wonderful night.

I'm just a man trying to find my place in this world. Walking through emotions and pain trying to become a more Godly man.
